Gold shops close. The soi opens differently after dark.

Why YAOWARAT, why now

Time Out Bangkok's 2026 coverage highlights Yaowarat as still evolving fast, with century-old shophouses being converted into specialty coffee roasters and speakeasy bars. Soi Nana within it has already gone from quiet street to global drinking destination.

1. KOW's cafe&living

KOW's sits where the shophouse era meets what coffee people are doing now in Yaowarat. The walk starts here because the space works as a break point: cafe downstairs, rooms upstairs, close enough to the markets that you can drop your bag and reset before the strip fills up. It's the kind of stop that lets you arrive on your own clock, no pressure to perform sightseeing yet.

2. Glass Half Full Bar Yaowarat

Glass Half Full closes the night because this is where Yaowarat's speakeasy turn makes the most sense. The course ends here so you're already inside when the strip gets loud, and the bartenders have time to build something off-menu if you ask. It's a jazz bar that lets you sit as long as the playlist holds, which on Yaowarat is the whole point of staying out past dinner.

The walk between

Between the two, Yaowarat shifts registers. You'll pass gold shops locking up, hawker smoke rising between the old arcades, and the soi energy flipping from commerce to nightlife as the bars turn their signs on.

  • Hit KOW's in the late afternoon when the heat makes the choice easy: iced coffee indoors, then wait for the street to cool before you move.
  • At Glass Half Full, ask the bartender to build you something off the card. The reviews are consistent: they prefer it when you give them room to work.

FAQ

Does this course work if I'm staying outside Chinatown?
Yes. KOW's is a short walk from the metro, and the whole route keeps you within a tight radius of the Yaowarat core. The timing still works whether you're coming in for the afternoon or starting at sunset.
Is Glass Half Full the kind of bar where I need to book ahead?
Not based on visitor patterns. It's small and gets full, but the tone is walk-in. Showing up after 8pm on a weekend means you might wait, but it's not a reservation-or-nothing spot.
